Review of Albarolo Nebbiolo

This is a very good wine. It is rare for Nebbiolo grown in the western hemisphere to live up to the grape as it produced in certain regions of Italy. Another good version is the Sophie Nebbiolo from Aguascalientes. This Albarolo is closer to a Barolo, the renowned Italian wine of Nebbiolo that is one of the world's greats. Long lived, it has two incarnations now, the modern, accessible early, sleek version as typified by Elio Altare and the more traditional variant typified by Guiseppi Rinaldi which is the old school: long living, leathery, powerful, needing plenty of time to mature. This wine, though not really redolent of a Barolo, is closer in spirit to the traditional variant. It is quite good, full of fruit and still big and perhaps a bit leathery. I recommend it, but I also think the price is high as one can sometimes find good Barolos for the same or less money, though not Altares or Rinaldis. It could likely benefit with some cellaring, The bottle I drank was from 2016. The problem is that I don't often find Barolo here in San Luis Potosi.
